Technically, a power source battery is a combination of one or more battery cells connected electrically and chemically. The chemical reactions that occur inside the power source battery create a rush of electrons inside the battery cell that are the cause of power inside the power source battery cell. 

Every power source battery consists of three significant and permanent components: the anode, the cathode, and the electrolyte. An anode forms the positive terminal of the battery, the cathode forms the negative terminal of the power source battery, an electrolyte is a chemical constituent that is responsible for transporting the electrons from one terminal of the battery to another. 

Sometimes, an additional component is present inside the structure of a power source battery called the separator. The job of the separator is to create electrical isolation between the anode and the cathode. Usually, the isolation is created with the help of the electrolyte automatically but when it fails to do so, a separator is used inside the power source battery. To hold together the construction of all these cell components, a power source battery contains a casing that encompasses all these components.

Power source batteries are manufactured by a lot of companies around the world. However, every company manufactures power source batteries of different types depending on the type of application. Companies may be creating power source batteries for household electronic items, military pieces of equipment, health sector equipments, or for electrical transmission and distribution network applications. 

Generally, according to the type of battery technologies, every power source battery manufacturer is creating two types of batteries: 

1.Lithium-ion power source batteries

2.Non-Lithium-ion power source batteries 

Lithium-ion power source batteries require a very careful approach to their chemical construction and require highly expert personnel to deal with its construction. For such reasons, the construction and chemistry of a lithium-ion battery are patented to the manufacturers. Most of the companies that manufacture lithium-ion power source batteries are situated in Japan and China, where they manufacture these batteries for both commercial and industrial uses. 

Non-lithium-ion power source battery manufacturers dwell on technologies and chemistry that are far less complex than lithium. This type of power source battery is not subjected to proprietorship and is being developed by startups, as well as, large corporations.
